This is another one of those very overdue blog posts that has been living on my to do list for far too long so it’s about time I shared my makeup story with my lovely readers! My blogging bestie over at BornToBlend tagged me to do this post back in May and you can read her makeup story by click here. I love to hear other peoples stories about how they got into makeup, their biggest makeup regret/disaster and their favourite products, I find it all so interesting and occasionally humourous on the relatable tragedies! I have really been looking forward to getting round to sharing my makeup story and those that I would like to see also do this tag are Minniemousechic, Gemsupnorth and ThroughTheGlitterGlass, these 3 lovely ladies have beautiful blogs so be sure to check them out!
- How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
I remember this clearly! I was about 14 and I really wanted to start wearing makeup but being the eldest I knew it wasn’t something my mum would be prepared to see, her young daughter beginning to grow up and she would certainly not be keen on the idea of me wearing makeup to school so we went on holiday abroad and I chose that as an opportunity for me to wear makeup and my mum to get used to it because I was sure she would be fine with it whilst on a holiday and I was right! Once I got back I continued to wear it and she had no wear near as big a problem as I expected beforehand. I began just wearing eyeliner and mascara however I used eye pencil to draw a line on my lid as well as tightline, it looked pretty awful but I blame it on the emo phase… hehe!
2. How did you get into makeup?
I used to love seeing the transformation makeup made to my mums eyes and I wanted to be able to do the same, hence why I only started out wearing eye makeup (I didn’t wear foundation until 1/2 years later) I loved the edgy look it gave off but overtime I came across YouTube tutorials, a larger range of products and my interest and passion just grew. I loved how there were endless creative ideas and different ways of using various products and it was just something I never have and never will get bored of but I never thought it would become such a bank breaking addiction, oops!
3. What are some of your favourite brands?
Urban decay has to be my all time favourite brand, I own more makeup from them than I do any brand and their eye shadows are my favourite, the pigmentation is to die for! I love MAC for their lipsticks but I do feel they are quite overrated as a brand but I haven’t tried enough products to make a solid opinion and I adore benefit although I wish I owned more of their products! For budget friendly makeup brands Rimmel London and Maybelline are my go to as well as Nyx, high end quality but very low prices!
4. What does makeup mean to you?
Makeup is wonderful, It is an art. There as so many looks and ideas you can create with it from a simple natural makeup look to SFX it’s a whole new world. I have such a huge passion for it and dream to one day work in the makeup industry. I have never held such a deep passion for something for so long, normally I would have moved on to another obsession but makeup is totally different!
5. If you could only wear 4 products on your face what would they be?
Hmmm… This is a tough one! Foundation, eye liner, mascara and bronzer!
6. What is your favourite thing about makeup?
The number of things you can create with it. You can completely transform someones looks it’s incredible! Not that it should be relied on for confidence, everyone is naturally stunning in their own way but it does at a lot of confidence to myself when wearing it!
7. What do you think about drugstore VS high end makeup?
Some high end makeup can be extremely overpriced for the sake of the name rather than the quality of the product, I believe there is always a drugstore dupe for the majority of the high end products however quality and longevity is usually better in high end makeup. I don’t have a preference as I use a variety of drugstore and high end makeup although I do prefer high end eye shadows simply because of how blendable they are, the pigmentation and how long they last in comparison to drugstore eye shadows.
8. What is one tip of advice you would give give to a beginner?
Never compare. There will always be those more advanced than you simply because of how long they have been practicing makeup but if you stick to it and keep learning you will gain so many skills! As long as you have the passion you can achieve whatever look you desire.
9. What is one makeup trend that you’ve never understood?
Hmmm… non-touring I suppose. Like I do get it but I don’t get why it is labelled as non-touring. If you don’t want to contour then that’s fine but as a trend I just don’t see the point of it…
10. What do you think of the beauty community on YouTube?
I love it! It is crazy how many beauty gurus there are out there now thanks to YouTube. They are the main cause of self-taught makeup artists, saving aspiring MUA’s hundreds because they can now watch a tutorial rather than go to a makeup course that breaks the bank! They are very inspirational, each with their own story and individual style. I would love to one day fit into that community, it is honestly such an amazing platform.
Hope you enjoyed reading this post! Feel free to do the tag if I haven’t nominated you.
